Outlook 97: No transport providers
Well, it can mean that you're out of luck. Most ISPs these days require
you to authenticate to the SMTP server when sending messages. Outlook 97
cannot do that and, hence, cannot be used to send mail to an SMTP server
that requires such authentication. Ask your ISP if they require
authentication to the SMTP server. If they say yes, choose another mail
client that can authenticate or ask if thet offer a non-authenticating
server you can use. If they do't have such a server. Outlook 98-2003,
Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Netscape COmmunicator, Eudora, and
others all can authenticate.
