Viewing a message in the preview pane is the same as opening it in its
own window.

The vast majority of e-mail virus infections occur by the user manually
opening an attachment that is the virus.

As for other potential infections, make sure that OE is set to the
Restricted Zone (Tools, Options, Security).

Also you can set OE to Read All Messages In Plain Text (Tools, Options,
Read). (For a quick workaround for the current message, press
ALT+Shift+H)

Check with Windows Update for the latest security updates. They
generally come out the second Tuesday of the month,
