It appears that he is running Windows XP with SP1, (circa 2003
version).

No I am not running XP with SP1.

I would never claim that Outlook Express or Internet Explorer are
the best e-mail client and browser, (far from it). Nor would I
disagree with someone that preferred to use different ones. I am
only involved with newsgroups to help people with MS issues, not to
tout MS products. But for someone to be so concerned with security,
I find it amusing that he is lacking in about four years of updates.

I stopped updating long ago after an update destroyed my printer
driver. It
took almost a year for me to create a workaround to restore full
functionality to my printer. I have been delighted with the results
ever since. Re; the printer and updates.

This
version of IE/OE surely is a less secure version than it could be.

Now that I use Xnews the NG posting part of that problem is solved.

What's that about taking advice "with a grain of salt"?

When I have completed my evaluation of all available browsers and
email clients I will cease using Internet Explorer and Outlook
Express. Put your grain of salt on that.

I'm using the computer I just built as a test bed for my evaluation.
When I
find replacements for IE OE I will do a clean install of the OS along
with my Microsoft replacements.

[snicker Even PCButts1 wasn't this dense.]

Enlighten me please. How am I dense?
