It would have been much simpler had you made a COPY of the file instead of
moving it and, had you placed in ANY OTHER folder but the one where newly
created .PST file lives, renaming it wouldn't have been needed; it is quite
good that you DID rename it because replacing the new file with the old file
would have corrupted both the .PST file and your Outlook profile
(overwriting a .PST file is a BIG NO-NO!). In any event, like I posted in
the last message, open this file with 'File|Open|Outlook Data File'. You
can then drag and drop it's contents into the new .PST file, or you can set
the old file as the default and continue to use it.

Thank you! Your answer was very helpful! I got the old .pst file into
the
new Outlook 2007. When I moved the file, I had three choices: 1) Move the
file and replace the old file, 2) Don't move the file, or 3) Move the File
and keep both the old and new files. I chose the last option because I
wasn't sure exactly what was in the file from the old computer, and wasn't
sure how it would affect the new Outlook.
Now, how can I make Outlook 2007 use the old file with the different name
to
see if everything works alright, but still be able to go back to the new
file, if necessary.
Thank you!

Address Book and Notes are both in your Personal Folders (.PST) file.
With
Outlook closed on the old computer, make a copy of this file and place
it in
a folder on the new computer where it will NOT OVERWRITE any existing
..PST
files. Once done, open Outlook 2007 and re-connect it to this file
using
'File|Open|Outlook Data File. Once this file is open, you can drag and
drop
it's contents into the new Personal Folders file created when you setup
outlook on the new machine.

I just got a brand new computer and am trying to move my Address Book
and
Notes from the old computer which runs Windows 2000 XP Professional
and
Outlook 2003 to the new one which is running Windows Vista and Outlook
2007.
They are connected using a home network (Linksys.) I tried using Easy
Transfer but now can't find the information on the new computer. "My
Documents" are accessible in Word and Excel, but Address Book and
Notes
did
not populate the new computer's Outlook. I would like to just use
Window's
Explorer to bring the files in but I can't access the Program files on
the
old computer from the new one. I don't know, however, if that is
where
the
Address Book and Note files are kept anyway. Where would I locate
these
two
files on my old computer? If I could find them, I could put them out
on
the
C drive and get them that way. Then, once I have them, how do I get
them
into the new version of Outlook?
TIA for any help!
