Default incoming emails not visible

Thanks for the further reply, Brian, but I guess I must not have been clear.

The problem is that I do not see any of my incoming messages in my Inbox.

What is working is my Outgoing mail - I see all of the messages I have sent
in my Sent box.

(All of these functions are working perfectly well for another user on the
same computer - my wife - who has her Outlook set up the same way as mine.)

I would still apprciate help with this.

You shouldn't see ANY sent messages in Outbox. You should see them in Sent
Items. What Navigation Pane view are you using?

You suggest I should rip out Norton. A couple of questions:
- Isn't it odd that my wife is getting no interference from Norton?

Nothing about side-effects when Symantec products are installed surprises
me.

- Which of the following Norton functions corresponds to what you
call "mail scanning" that I should disable: Personal Firewall or
Intrusion Firewall (and there is also Spyware Protection)

None of those seem to be the mail scanning function. Mail scanning isn't
usually a firewall function, but an antivirus or antispam function.

- Can you recommend a replacement security system that doesn't
interefere?

I use an earlier version of ZoneAlarm (when it was free) and AVG without the
email scanner. My router has an internal firewall as well. I also use
Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and have used SpamPal
as well as the built-in Windows firewall. Avast also makes a good antivirus
program that can be configured to not interfere with Outlook.
