The message body contains HTML and is very possibly a virus or other
malware.

I use a spam filter called Mailwasher and can often read some of the
email
text in Mailwasher's preview screen. On occasions I find that the email,
although having readable text while in Mailwasher, does not have any text
when it appears in OE. I don't feel this is Mailwasher's fault and
suspect
that if I had downloaded it without it going through a spam filter first

the
result would be the same - no text. Anyone shed any light on this?

Mmmmm. But Mailwasher isn't an antivirus program so it would not be able to
delete the text - if that is what you're suggesting. Also, the blank
messages generally seem to be of the *replied to mine* variety.
