Default .dbx Access Problem

Hi CWLee,

The only program you have that can access the email stored in your Jeep.dbx
folder is Outlook Express.

As you noticed, creating a new Jeep folder in Outlook Express resulted in a
new .dbx folder being created in the message store but it ended up with the
title Jeep(1).dbx.

The first thing you should do is delete your newly created Jeep folder in
Outlook Express, this should remove the newly created Jeep(1).dbx folder in
message store.

You may have to close Outlook Express for the actual removal of Jeep(1).dbx
in message store to take place.

Next, move the Jeep.dbx folder that has ~7,000 KB of contents out of message
store.

This will allow you to be able to create new Jeep folder in Outlook Express
with the result of the new .dbx folder being created in the message store
ending up with the title Jeep.dbx.

Note: be sure to open and close the new empty Jeep folder in Outlook Express
(this activates the folder) and close Outlook Express before checking to see
if it is in message store. Remember, things happen in message store when
Outlook Express is closed, so you want Outlook Express closed so you are
seeing the final configuration of message store.

Now: move the Jeep.dbx folder that has ~7,000 KB of contents back into
message store.

Note: You will receive a warning message that Jeep.dbx exist do you want to
overwrite.

Of course you want to choose yes so the newly created empty jeep.dbx folder
is replaced with the Jeep.dbx folder that has ~7,000 KB of contents.

Open Outlook Express, the Jeep folder should display whatever was in those
~7,000 KB of contents.

Hope this helps,
Ken

| (I'm using Windows 2000/pro on a Gateway Computer.)
|
| I had a folder in Outlook Express with a title of Cars, and
| a corresponding folder Cars.dbx viewable via Windows
| Explorer. The folder was getting large, so I moved various
| messages into three newly created folders, Ford, Chevy,
| Jeep - at least I thought that was what I did. However, in
| Outlook Express I now have only the folders Cars, Ford, and
| Chevy - but no folder for Jeep. When I use Windows Explorer
| I find Cars.dbx, Ford.dbx, Chevy.dbx, and Jeep.dbx. The
| Jeep.dbx folder has ~7,000 KB of contents, which seems about
| right.
|
| My problem is how can I access the email stored in that
| Jeep.dbx folder, since there is no Jeep folder in Outlook
| Express?
|
| (I created a new folder in Outlook Express, named Jeep, but
| that didn't do it. Via Windows Explorer that merely
| resulted in a new folder titled Jeep(1).dbx. having 75 KB.
| Unsuccessful attempt.)
|
| Any assistance appreciated.
