Default Problem deleting items from a shared Outlook 2007 calendar?

There's a shared dept calendar we use for meetings. It will not allow me to
add anything new. Says it's full and tells me to delete stuff by hiting shift
+ Delete to permanently delete. I've been doing that for about half an hour
now and it still won't let me.
