OE creates a bak file when it compacts. Do you have an Inbox.dbx file and an
Inbox.bak file in the message store? Move any messages that you have in the
Inbox to a user created folder. Go back to the message store and drag the
Inbox.dbx file to the Desktop at the top of the folder tree in Windows
Explorer. Rename the Inbox.bak file to Inbox.dbx. Are the messages back in
OE now?

Somewhere between 150 and 200 messages missing.
Fully patch Win XP SP2. This was actually the .BAK file of the Inbox file
as
the Inbox.dbx disappeared [I suspect the user killed OE before it's auto
purge ever 100-times it opens].

I don't see a question mark in this post. I don't have first hand
knowledge
of any of the programs. How many messages are missing? DBXpress is much
faster.
Since you didn't bring it up, I assume you haven't compacted and you're
either not running a fully patched XP/SP2, or there are no bak files in
the
Recycle Bin or Message Store? (Don't compact now though).

Hi,
Tried the first one. It only sees messages that weren't deleted.
Found an old copy of DBExtract lying around [goes back a few versions].
That
one shows the deleted messages but extracts them individually as text
files.

The first one is free, but only the last will work if you have
compacted
since emptying Deleted Items. OTOH, if you are running XP/SP2, look
for
bak
files in the Recycle Bin & Message Store.

Hi. I'm trying to restore some deleted messages from an Inbox.
Hopefully
I'll
need to do it just once. So a freebee utility would be nice.
Anything
out
there that can do it?
Thanks
