1. See if disabling Email Scanning by PC-cillin (incoming and outgoing)
resolves the problem. Email scanning provides no additional protection and
even Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

2. If the message was sent using MS Outlook and RichText or HTML format, ask
your correspondent to only use Plain Text when sending to you, especially if
there's an attachment.

The Read all messages in plain text was not enabled - I have enabled it
but
the problem remains

Recently I have been unable to view attachments in new incoming mail.
The
size of the mail is correct for the attached file (eg 1MB), but there is
no
'paperclip' shown next to the header in the inbox. Clicking
Properties/Details/Message Source shows that the attachment is embedded
in
the email. This is not file specific, as I can see one file type (eg
jpg)
from a sender but not another (eg psd), but can see psd files from
another
sender. I'm tearing my hair out - any ideas?

Thanks
