I have inherited this pc and wish to access other newsgroups. How do
I do this - ie pop2,3,?????
The possession of hardware grants you no access to newsgroups. You
will have to configure your newsreader software to use whatever NNTP
(Network News Transfer Protocol) server you choose to use. Some are
free, some are paid. You may even have NNTP service through your ISP.
BTinternet has their own NNTP server as evidenced by their own web
help page at
news://news.btinternet.com/btinternet.support; however,
it is possible that their NNTP server, as with Microsoft's, carries
only newsgroups related to that provider. You could connect to it and
find out what groups they carry, or just call them to get info on
newsgroups service.
Microsoft's NNTP server carries newsgroups only for Microsoft topics
(microsoft.public.*). If you want access to "other newsgroups" (which
you didn't bother to specify) then you will need to use a different
NNTP server. Outlook Express can handle multiple NNTP accounts
defined within it, so you can connect to a multitude of NNTP servers.
POP3 is an e-mail protocol. Nothing to do with newsgroups. Newsgroup
posts are not e-mail. Read:
