Default Contact folder missing, but not all the time

Russ, thanks again. I read the link and took it all in. One thing that
isn't addressed in that article and I was l wondering your input.

I have 1500 contacts spread out over 12 different address folders. I use
quite a few categories also.

If I search for a name in the current folder, or the master address file, it
is quick, but if I select the option under search options to search all
folders, it is REALLY SLOW. It might take 30 seconds to find all the
contacts with "Bill" in it.

What is the best way to search for a contact, often I only remember a first
name etc.

It seems that the different address folders has the advantage of when you
create a new email and you are choosing recipients from the "TO:" or "CC:"
dialog, you can use the pull down menu to select different segregated
address
folders.

What are your thoughts?

You have still failed to tell us which Navigation Pane view in Outlook

are using to examine your folders. Start by using the "Folder List" view
so
you can examine your entire folder hierarchy. I'll bet that if you expand
every folder, you will eventually see these subfolders you created.

contact folders were created by me by creating 'new folder' from within

main "contacts" folder.

Is your data store and Exchange mailbox or a PST? It is a PST file.

I hope this helps. The data is still there, because again if I go to
create
a new message, click on the "TO:" box to select addresses, in the pull
down
menu for "Contacts" ALL the contact folders show up. If I select an
address
within one of these folders that is missing on the main Contacts
screen,
and
right click on it and click no properties, all the data in the record
is
there.

All of the sudden, this and 1 or 2 others has disappeared.....
however if I create a new message and click on "TO:" in the drop
down
window of available contact folders to look for, these folders are
there AND USABLE.

That means that your contacts folders are enabled as address books but
that
has nothing to do with Navigation Pane views. Which Navigation Pane
view
are you using? Where do you think they should show and don't?
