Default windows live mail

Apparently, you can't. I use a shortcut on the start menu -

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /newsonly

This will open LM with newsgroup support only.

Using vista. I just downloaded windows live mail. It works. I have
configured vista to make it the default newsreader. But when I click on
outlook and click therin on mail at the top of the screen, outlook still
calls windows mail to be the news program. Every time I do it I get two
dialogue boxes asking me if I want to make windows mail the default
newsreader. I, of course, do not.

I am well aware that there is probably something simple here I don't
understand.

How do I change Outlook to use Windows Live Mail instead of Windows
Mail?

You don't. You cannot make Outlook "use" Windows Live Mail. We are not
there looking over your shoulder to see what you are REALLY trying to
do.
