That sounds like you're running some addin that is handling the Item.Send
event and is not releasing the object after the send. The addin most likely
is not handling cases where Outlook is started using a Simple MAPI
Inspector.

What addins are you running with Outlook? Check in Tools, Trust Center and
take a look. See if the same thing happens if you start Outlook in safe
mode. Open the Start, Run dialog and in it type:

outlook.exe /safe

Then press Enter. Does the same thing happen then?

After addressing the email and clicking "Send" however the email remains

system tray, then the email message will instead remain stuck on the
screen
with the misleading message. Luckily as a workaround, the close gadget
does
still work on the message and will remove it from the screen. Nevertheless
is it still annoying that you should need to do this.

As far as I can tell all the MAPI settings on my computer are established
correctly. The only weird thing I've noticed is that I have 2 identical
"URL: MailTo Protocol" entries listed on the File Types tab of Folder
Options. Is this normal? The Delete button is ghosted so you are unable to
delete one of the entries.

Is anybody able to shed any light on this matter, as no amount of googling
has assisted me with a solution.
