But the problem was with the user: in the registry, I found the 'OpenWith'

or ProgIds) keys for IE, Word, and AcrodRd32 ( Adobe reader) for the .pdf
extension. He has been doing spmehing with File Associations that he
should
not have done. In Folder Options-FileTypes, I deleted the .PDF entry. But
when I clicked on a .pdf file, it opened. I found the .PDF entry had come
back. On opening the mail in question, and clicking on the .pdf
attachment,
the .pdf opened.
