Hi Robear,
I posted in the XP group because I thought it was an XP issue in addition to
an OE issue. Otherwise I would not have posted to another group. Sorry.
As to serious issues, my pc functions well in all other respects and as I
stated, now I do not have any deleted items returning so far. What is the
harm in bypassing the Deleted folder and the Recycle Bin? When I decide to
delete something it's because I have no more use for it and will have no
reason to retrieve it.
I use AVG AntiVirus v8, AdAware Plus, Spybot S & D, Spyware Blaster, and
Super AntiSpyware. I use the free version of Zone Alarm firewall. McAfee
came with my computer 3 years ago but I uninstalled it and reformatted
several times in the meantime anyway so there's nothing left. I did have
Norton AntiVirus for a while but uninstalled it using Symantic's Removal
tool and I use Revo Uninstaller regularly which doesn't show any sign of it
in my system. Right now my computer is running like it just came from Dell.
I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks for your efforts to help. I really
appreciate it.

Crossposted to microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support newsgroup.
Your concurrent thread in WinXP Help & Support newsgroup:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ad9390fdd5e22e
If you find that the behavior persists in OE, you may have a corrupt
identity. I can give you instructions on how to create a new identity.
I would NOT bypass the Recycle Bin or OE's Deleted Items folder, Stan! As
I posted in my reply to your other thread, it sounds like that machine may
have some serious issues.
You post using a WinXP SP2 machine: Is it the machine in question here?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party
firewall (if any)?
Has a Symantec/Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
machine (e.g., a free trial that was preinstalled when you purchase the
machine)?
[It's "Robear" please.]

Robert,
I followed your advice and since I was having the same problem with the
Recycle Bin I also posted in the XP group. There I got the suggestion to
bypass the Bin when deleting so I did that and the same when deleting in
OE.
I reasoned that if my deletions were never in those folders there was no
chance they could re-appear there. It has only been one day but so far
all
is well. I will watch for a week and then report my results in a brand
new
post to your attention. Thanks again.

Hi Robert,
Thank You sincerely for all the advice. Am sending another Thank You

gratitude.

1a. Move any messages that you want to keep out of Sent Items and
Deleted
Items folders and into other local OE folders you've created for
archiving
(saving) such messages.
1b. Move 99% of your messages in your Inbox folder to other local OE
folders, too.
2. Write down the location of your identity's store
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain).
3. Close OE.
4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to your store folder, find & delete
the
files Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, and Deleted Items.dbx.
To avoid such problems in the futu
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to
local
folders created for this purpose.
- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.
- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline".
More
at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm
- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.
- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional
protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:
QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against
viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of
this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum
protection,
keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that
you
have the most recent virus definitions.

Ron,
As far as I know I do not have a recovery program. Compacting is done
whenever a notice pops up saying it is going to do so, about every
week
or
two.

Do you have a program that recovers deleted files? It may do this
by
saving deleted files to its own 'Recycle bin'.
How often do you compact a folder or folders?

Windows XP and IE 6. I delete everything from the Deleted folder
several
times a day but frequently when i reopen that folder after it has
been
emptied many messages come back. Some have been deleted several
days
ago,
The Sent folder and even the Recycle Bin act the same. Does anyone
have
a
solution?
