setting up outlook 2002 for email
thank you.
Comcast did change the outgoing mail server to 587. the authentication is
'use same as incoming mail server'
I am not able to check email on the windows xp machine wiht outlook 2002. I
cannot set up a profile[following Milly's good directions from another post].
in setting up or trying to, I went to more settings' and checked outgoing
server requires authentication and then checked use same setting as incoming.
All the comments were helpful, but none have solved the problem.
Any other ideas?

I am new to trying to use outlook. Switching from outlook express to outlook
[in order to sync with new Treo].
BTW, I only check email in early am, so it will likely be the next day, when
I send a reply
I removed older version of Office and installed Officexp- small business on
my WinXP machine [dell].
when I opened outlook for first time, I got message 'unable to open default
email folders'.
in one of threads, Milly suggested control panel/mail/ new profile. So
that a profile would be set up, not use old corrupted profile.
I tried that, but was not able to get new profile setup completely. When I
set it up using information from Comcast for all settings [which work on
other machines in 1.outlook express and 2. windows mail-with Vista.] and did
the ‘test account settings’.
I was not able to send email. I got message unable to log on to outgoing
mail server.
I was told to check authentication settings which I have with Comcast. What
I have is correct.
I have worked with Comcast on this. They will only go over settings for
Outlook, not due detailed trouble shooting. They say MS should do that.
Unfortunately, I have OEM version, so MS says Dell has to do the support.
Machine is out of warranty. Therefore… I am in trouble.
Any ideas/
Thank you in advance for any help.
