Yes that is what i want it to do, but i don't want it to prompt me for a
username and password as the user will have already logged onto the laptop

Hard to say without any configuration info. Most likely you have the option
"on fast networks..." enabled so it will still try to connect via RPC over
HTTP on the local network.
