Default OE6 Reply e-mail address problem (doesn't reply using address email was sent to)

I have three email accounts set up in Outlook Express 6 (on Windows XP,
SP3). Two for private use and one for business use.

Did this behavior only start after you'd installed WinXP SP3? If so, STOP
HERE!

===============================================

1. Are two (2) or more of the addresses "aliases" for the same mailbox?

Most families (an intentionally all-encompassing term) will have one Mail
Account with their one ISP subscription ($$/month for all). Most ISPs
provide you with multiple Addresses for the Mail Account (e.g., ,
, etc.) but all of them "point" to the one mailbox.

2a. Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Test your accounts in a new Named Identity (File | Identities |
Add new identity).

2b. If this behavior does NOT persist, (1) compact all folders in the old
identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and
then (3) delete the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [removed in WinXP SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and
do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

I'm experiencing a problem with Outlook Express 6. When ever I try to
reply to received email, the application chooses a reply address by
some random mechanism and does not always use the address the message
was sent to.

For clarification;

I have three email accounts set up in Outlook Express 6 (on Windows XP,
SP3). Two for private use and one for business use.

When ever I receive an email to any of the three accounts and then hit
the reply button, OE doesn't automaticly choose the address the message
was sent to as the reply address, but instead simply chooses among one
of the three accounts I have set up. In that way I might be replying to
by business clients from my private account and to my family and friends
from my business account.

I'm at complete lose as to why this is happening and although I found
numerous other examples on the Net of the same problem and requests for
assistance(*), I have yet to find a solution to it.

If anyone could advise I would be extremely grateful. Thank you!
