lost contacts - help!
Yes, when I imported the messages, there was a choice of importing from MS
Outlook - that's what I did. But when I tried to import an address book it
went to the empty .wab file on found on my computer when I did the search.
There were actually 4 files that contained .wab - 3 of them were last
modified in 2005 and one of them was modified today at the same time as when
I received my email "Welcome to Outlook Express 6" at 1:06 PM??

If you imported messages, you imported them from another identity or
directory. A new identity was created somehow.
I have a feeling you didn't do the search for the Address Book correctly.
Try this:
In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.
Now search for:
*.wab
and
*.wa~

No, I was actually able to import all of my messages - including sent and
deleted ones.
In Identities, I have only one - "Main Identity"

Did you lose your saved messages as well? File | Identities | Manage
Identities. Do you have more than one?

I don't understand either! But when I logged into my email this
afternoon it had changed and I received a "Welcome to Outlook Express 6"
email at 1:06 PM??
I did the *.wab search before and my address book was empty!

I do not understand. You are posting using XP/SP2. You always had OE6
on it. No other version of OE has ever come with XP.
Do an Advanced search and include Hidden Files and Folders. Search
for:
*.wab

No I didn't install a new windows version. In fact I'm not quite
sure how I
got the OE6 update? When I had shut down my computer this morning
because
they were putting a new electric box on our house, it said there were
updates being installed - I didn't pay attention to it - then when I
turned
it back on this afternoon, I had OE6??

You can only update to OE6 by installing a new Windows version, i.e.
Win98 to XP. Is this what you did? Tell us a little more.
