Default Multiple copies sent; outbox still holds message; sent folder

1: You do not have the same problem.

2: If your OS is Vista, then you do not have Outlook Express. You have
Windows Mail.

3: Try this:

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista. Applies to other folders as well.

4: If that is not the solution, please ask in the Windows Mail newsgroup for
more knowledgeable information.

Bruce ... I am having the very same problem with Outlook Express v6
running
on Vista where the outbox.dbx file is apparently hidden or not part of the
archatecture. Have you any ideas how I might resolve this bothersome
problem?
Thanks for your time, Jon :-)

Was OE closed when you deleted the Outbox.dbx? It must be. Sent Items
is
the
next logical choice.

Yes, OE was closed and it did no good. However, the next thing you
wrote
apparently was just the ticket to success. I closed OE again, deleted
the
outbox again, copied the sent folder to a new place, then deleted the
sent
folder, which I hadn't done before. Just in case, I went ahead and
reconfigured Norton's to stop checking the outgoing mail.

It appears all is well with the universe again. Thank you for your
very
speedy reply and accurate assistance.

Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat
for
Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local
folder
you create.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question
{Outbox.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open
OE.

My father is running the latest version of Outlook Express along with
Win
XP SP3. Sometime since yesterday his copy of OE has decided to start
sending outgoing messages without notifying itself that it's done
so....
so the outgoing message remains in the outbox. My father sees that,
thinks it hasn't sent and clicks send again. I get the messages
every
time... over and over again, depending on how many times he hits
send.

I manually deleted the messages (courtesy of PCAnywhere). I even
deleted
the outbox.dbx file so OE could recreate it. Nothing has worked.
Does
anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

As an aside, my father happened to mention rebooting during a
compacting
session yesterday... he didn't think anything was happening outside
of
his
computer had become unresponsive to his inputs. I suspect that's
when
the
damage was done.

So how to fix this?
