Wonder if you have resolved the issue after 3 months?
I'm experiencing similar performance issue with IMAP account.

I've increased the server timeouts time to no avail.

Been digging for quite some time to resolve this problem. Lots of users
chasing me about it.

Suggestions would be welcome.
