Default Links within message don't open browser

Bruce,

Thanks. In following the suggested repair in the first link, I discovered
that FireFox had been set as the default browser by the previous owner. When
I got this machine I uninstalled a lot of programs I would never use and old
dated programs including FireFox 1. I planned on installing FF3.0 but had
not got around to doing it yet.

Anyway, I reset IE to check to see if it was the default browser, shutdown
both IE and OE and then opened IE. When it asked about being the default, I
said yes, and that changed the settings such that now links from OE do work.

Thanks for the lead.

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet
Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867

If still no joy, for IE6 & IE7:

From:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet
Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path
to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

I am starting to use a used XP home SP2, laptop with OE 6.00.2900.2180
(xpsp_sp2_rtm 040803) and IE6 and links within HTML email preview pane do
not open the browser when clicked. Links show as active, but just don't
open a browser window, or change an open window.

I have looked through all the settings in IE6 and OE6 but can't seem to
find the setting that allows me to open the browser from the OE message
link. Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get this to work?

By the way, I can copy and paste the links into IE and they work fine.
Also I am running ZoneAlarm but have both IE and OE marked with full
permissions. AVG also running.

Thanks.
