I need you to answer some questions before we proceed further:
1a. Open Internet Explorer Tools | Internet Options | Programs | E-mail: Is
WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL or WINDOWS LIVE MAIL (note the subtly different names)
selected here?
1b. If WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL is selected, is WINDOWS LIVE MAIL and/or OUTLOOK
EXPRESS another option here?
2. While you may read this and other newsgroups using Outlook Express, you
post messages to the newsgroups using your browser (e.g., Internet
Explorer). May I ask why you don't post messages to the newsgroups using
Outlook Express?
3. Open START | (ALL) PROGRAMS: Is WINDOWS MAIL a listed program here?
Please answer the above questions by number (e.g., "1a. WINDOWS LIVE
HOTMAIL"). Thanks.

Pa, sorry to appear so untechy but am confused so can we begin at the
beginning.
1-I use mail.comcast.net and smtp.comcast.net in the O.E. set up.
2-In internet options(programs) I have Live mail as the mail and O.E. as
the
newsgroup.
Please correct me if I am wrong and if you have the patience we can do one
thing at a time so messages like the one you just sent will appear in my
Live mail box. Once again I had to search for your message here. I'll get
the hang of what I'm doing wrong so I hope you have patience. Thank you
for
your help,
1. If you access this newsgroup via the web-interface (i.e.,
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...outlookexpress)
and check the option to receive email notifications of replies to your
posts, those emails will arrive in your Hotmail inbox at
http://mail.live.com.
2. If you've installed Windows Live Mail as your default Mail Client and
post to the newsgroup via the web-interface, email notifications will
arrive in your Windows Live Mail inbox (as well as the inbox at
http://mail.live.com).
3. If you access this newsgroup and other newsgroups using Windows Live
Mail (see below) instead of the web-interface, I don't believe you'll
have
the email notification option available to you at all. But the next time
you open the newsgroup in Windows Live Mail, your posts and replies to it
will be available.
To open this newsgroup in Windows Live Mail, click on the following link:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...xpress.general
To open the Windows Live Mail newsgroup (for support & discussion) in
Windows Live Mail, click on this link:

I'm glad you are here to help.
I removed Outlook. In internet optionsprograms, I used to have O.E. as
my
email but I never got a message like yours from the news group. I had to
come here to search. So, I changed email to Windows live mail. I hope
now
I will get your reply in my Windows Live Email account.
Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

I don't know If O.E. or Outlook is better to go with. I don't think

If you don't use Outlook or its Calendaring function, it can be removed
from your install of the "suite" (which may or may not be MS Office).
After you do so, we can assist you if OE isn't configured as your
default
Mail and News client.
1- please enlighten me about O.E. vs. Outlook.
Differences between Outlook and Outlook Express:

2-when I want to leave my O.E. ac't, Is there a more secure or
appropriate
way to sign off rather than just 'file' then 'exit'?
OE isn't an account, it's a Mail Client in which you can access email
accounts. Simply closing OE is both secure and appropriate: OE can't
send
or receive or do anything else if it's not running.
P.S. not to confuse you but under int opt'sprograms I currently have
O.E.
as my email program I think b/c it was O.E. that allowed me to set up
my
newsgroups. I wish I could set it to Hotmail and get my responses from
newsgroups in Hotmail-is it possible?
Are you able to access your Hotmail account in OE right now?
I can tell you how to (1) make Hotmail your default Mail Client and (2)
use
OE as a News Client only, yes.
To confuse you more (sorry), you can install a free application named
Windows Live Mail and use it to (1) access your Hotmail account (and
most
other email accounts) and (2) access & post to newsgroups.

Hello
I needed M.S. Word + the Suite also had Outlook. I installed both.
I have been using my isp's web based server as my wife uses it for
business.
I also have a Hotmail ac't which I need .
Then I have Outlook Express which I basically use for my newsgroups.
Now I have Outlook installed but not set up. This is too much!
I tried setting up the Outlook program but it kept asking me questions
about
the O.E. program it detected but I was unable to answer.
