Comcast passing the buck to Microsoft Outlook Express
Just spent a frustrating hour with Concast who insist that the inability I
have to receive emails via Outlokk Express is due to an update that Microsoft
did either to Outlokk Express or to Windows XP or to the secuity settngs.
This happens on two PCs, both Windows XP. Doesn't matter if virus
protection on (tried it both ways). I have already changed my port setting
to 587. Did that two weeks ago and everything was fine, then this morning
(12/13) the following error shows up:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'feld hell contest', Server: 'mail.comcast.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Comcast says since I can retrieve emails from the web (at comcast.net) then
it is not their problem. Does Microsoft have an answer?
Again - the port setting and smtp all other seetings are correct - just as
they were yesterday when everything worked fine. Is anyone aware of an
update to Microsoft XP or XP-related products that would cause this, because
Comcast refuses to aknowledge even the remote chance it is their problem.
