i checked-still not clear why outlook.exe wont stop-i tried installing "close
outlook" and got an error message that the app was unable to register the
dll/ocx reg svr32. i didnt have the problem with outlook prior to this
(actually on occassion outlook exe would hang up, but if i ever went in to
change pst file extensions i could)-so i think the problem is related to the
whole repointing of the pst file problem.
when i tried to go into control panel mail there was no tab or check box
that gave me an option as to which pst account to access for in and out mail
messages. the only place i see that is when i have outlook open and click on
the individual pst folder in the folder view.
i am thinking that i need to stop outlook.exe on the task manager and then
go in and rename all the archive pst files to something else so that the only
pst folder is the one i want to have email use. if that doesnt work sounds
like i then need to uninstall office and reinstall and see what happens.
please advise if this makes sense or there is a better alternative. thanks

i checked-outlook exe is still running. should i stop it?? once i stop it
should i then go to change the location for email??
I would stop it and then use http://www.slipstick.com/problems/close.asp to
figure out why it doesn't stop.
however if i understand your directions correctly, the way i change the
pst
file is with outlook open (i have the folder list view on and then i click
on
the file i am trying to change, going to properties etc). is there another
way to do so without having outlook open?
Use the Mail applet in Control Panel.
