Default Outlook 2000 Will Not Send

I replaced my Win98 client with an XP Pro box. The server is running NT4 and
the mail server is running Exchange 5.5. I installed Outlook 2000 and
configured it the same way it had been on the Win98 machine but I can't send
any mail to an internet mailbox. I can send mail to other mailboxes on our
network but nothing outside. Outlook will receive internet mail or from
within the shop.

I tried Outlook Express which has no trouble sending internet email. When I
initially launched Express I had it to use the same settings I have setup for
Outlook and it worked with no changes.

What needs to be done?

Any help appreciated.
