The "Type: Unknown File Type" means that OE does not know this is a PDF
file.
I'm thinking an issue with your AV program or some other third party
program. If e-mail scanning is enabled, turn it off.
Just to test, reboot and disconnect from the Internet. Now disable your AV
program. Open OE and try to read the PDF you created. Regardless of the
results, be sure to turn your AV back on.
To eliminate any problem with Adobe, download Foxit and see if that program
will read the attachments.

Finally, create a new identity and see if they will open there.

Bruce,
I am having problems with all pdf attachments to emails, both recent and
past (I've checked several old emails). And, I did create a new pdf and
sent to self -- same results. Attached are the screen shots of what I get
upon trying to open from IE 6.

Win+E key | Folder Options | File Types. Is PDF listed, and have Adobe
Acrobat Document next to it?
I am concerned with the reference to "Unknown File Type". Can you create a
PDF file and send it to yourself? (Not one that you are having problems
with). If that opens, it may be the way the other was sent. Possibly from
someone using MS Outlook and Rich Text Format.

Well, unfortunately #1 does not do it.
And note: When I click on the pdf email attachment, the DO YOU WANT TO
OPEN
THIS FILE? pop up window also says "Unknown file type."
Errrr.

1: Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With |
Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box:
Always
use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to
open
these attachments in the future.
2: (If the problem persists). Unable to open .PPS attachments directly
from
Outlook Express using XP/SP2 or XP/SP3:

OS = Win XP
Recently, I uninstalled a bunch of old Adobe stuff.
Now when I try to open a PDF email attachment, I get, "This file does
not
have a program associated with it for performing this action."
However, if I save the attachments, I can go to Windows Explore and
double
click the file and it opens with Adobe Reader 9.
How can I fix this?
