Default Compacting takes about 30 minutes

But at least the OP manages to compact the lot, despite the size.

FWIW it only takes my system a few minutes to compact a large folder.

Maybe the OP has a slower chipset/older computer?

Start by (1) not using Sent Items or any other default folder (e.g.,
Inbox; Deleted Items) to archive your messages and (2) compacting all
folders manually & more frequently.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt
to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic
Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Each compacting of messages in my OE (v. 6.00.2900.5512) turns into a
nightmare - it takes about 30 minutes, sometimes more. Is it right? There
is
"a few minutes" in the primary message! The file sizes is: Inbox.dbx -
475
Mb, Sent Item.dbx - 390 Mb.

How can I fix this?
