Right or wrong, what I did was open Outlook, click on the Address Book
Icon,
scrolled down to the address I wanted to delete,right clicked on it, the
menu
that opened displayed Delete...I clicked it and the address was deleted.

All you did was delete the E-mail field from the contact record. You did
not remove the contact itself. When you try to re-add it the way you
describe, Outlook is telling you the contact alreday exists, which it does.
Open the Contacts folder, find the contact, then add the new address there.
