Default IE does not go on the web-page whose address is pasted in

This state arises after installing update KB958215, which is required
after my system restoration by the Windows XP's repair. Automatic Updates
has been set up to 'Notify me but don't automatically download or install
them'. It was proposed to install about 30 updates. The installation of
all updates except KB958215 was made without any adverse effects. But
installation the KB958215 gave the described above error.

How to get out of the situation, so you can transfer the system to the
'Automatic (Recommended)' for Automatic Updates?
