This started after creating a new identity?

And there were no other changes in settings?

Does the new identity have the word Main in it?

Create yet another identity. Do not use the word Main in the name. Import
all of the folders. Does the problem persist?

"Automatically display folders with unread messages" is checked or
unchecked.

If I deleted Folders.dbx, I lose all organization of the sub-folders which
would create hours of work for me. Can Folders.dbx be rebuilt in a manner
that maintains folder and sub-folder organization?

Compacting all folders does not change a thing either.
