I've spent several days on this and I conclude that it's a bug. I hope that
it's fixed in the future and I'll just get by without an OAB until then.

Went to Control Panel- View 32-bit Control Panel Items- Mail- Show
Profiles Add
Entered "gaia" as name for new profile
Added a mail account
Selected the old pst as the default pst
File- Data File Management Selected outlook.pst and "Set as Default"
button
Restarted Outlook
Removed empty pst-file
In Outlook chooe File- Data File Management outlook1.pst.
Pressed Remove
Closed Outlook
Removed old profile
Went to Control Panel- Mail- button Show Profiles.
Selected "outlook" profile Pressed Remove
Restarted Outlook

Outlook 2007 Address Book Won't Recognize Contacts

This issue was described by vicmike 7/24/08 & I now have the same
issue.
My Outlook Address Book (OAB) does not recognize the contacts
information
in
the .pst file.

I cannot open a new message and select an address from the OAB. The OAB
is
blank. And I can't add entries via the OAB.

In Mail File Data File Management Address Books Tab, the OAB is
displayed. However, it does not list itself when Change is clicked.

In Contacts Properties OAB tab, the "Show this folder as an OAB" is
grayed out.
