Outlook 2007 Address Book Won't Recognize Contacts
Nice to finally know you're using Vista X64. Provide all relevant
information next time so I won't waste so much time.

Most users discovered long ago that autocompletion largely renders the
OAB
obsolete.
I didn't realise this as I assumed that the autocompletion came from the
OAB
... I now know that it doesn't and I do agree trhat the OAB is obsolete
for
me.
Creating a new profile does fix this issue unless there are other
problems.
Well there must be other problems as creating a new profile did not fix
this
issue for me or for a number of others I've found in my searching. The one
common point appears to be for me and others who have the same issue is
that
we're all using Vista X64.
You should repair your installation and PST file before you create a new
profile.
I did all of that. It's a bug plain and simple and maybe it'll get
rectified
in the future or not. I'm happy with autocompletion in lieu of the OAB.

I've got a workaround of sorts.
Select the contact, right-click & select Create New Message to Contact.
This will create an entry in "
...AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\profile.NK2" so that a de facto
address
book entry is available when creating emails.
I can live with this until the bug is fixed.

I've spent several days on this and I conclude that it's a bug. I hope
that
it's fixed in the future and I'll just get by without an OAB until then.

Did exactly that & same issue. Looks like I'll have to get used to not
having an OAB.

Then try the following:
1. Make sure the name you give the new profile has never been used before
on
this partition.
2. Configure your mail accounts in the new profile.
3. Verify that the Outlook Address Book exists in the new profile and
that
the Contacts Folder in the new PST file in the profile is enabled as an
email address book.
4. Open your old PST file using File Open Outlook Data file then set
it
as the new default and restart Outlook.

I know what the article says. It contains generalizations. I want to
know
what you did. You did something wrong, but it's impossible to say what.
Include how you migrated your data to the new profile and configured
it.

Russ
State how you created a new profile.
I did it exactly as advised at:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm
If you had, the problem would not persist.
Yes it shouldn't, but it does, which is why I'm posting.

Outlook 2007 Address Book Won't Recognize Contacts
This issue was described by vicmike 7/24/08 & I now have the same
issue.
My Outlook Address Book (OAB) does not recognize the contacts
information
in
the .pst file.
I cannot open a new message and select an address from the OAB. The
OAB
is
blank. And I can't add entries via the OAB.
In Mail File Data File Management Address Books Tab, the OAB is
displayed. However, it does not list itself when Change is clicked.
In Contacts Properties OAB tab, the "Show this folder as an OAB"
is
grayed out.
From:
Contacts are not available in the Address Book
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/con...ddressbook.htm
This page accurately describes the problem, and ends with the advice
to
"recreate your mail profile," because the OAB service is corrupted.
That leads to these instructions:
Adding/Recreating a Mail Profile
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm
I've created a new mail profile, but the problem remains identical.
Can anyone pls advise a solution?
