Default cannot send mail with OE

I can receive mail, but cannot send mail. Have uninstalled all McAfee
antivirus and firewall. Have updated OE to the latest version. Not an
ISP problem. I can set up the email account on another computer with
OE and everything works fine. When I set up the email account on this
computer, I cannot send messages. Windows XP...XP firewall is turned
off also. Any other ideas. I have tried to go to safe mode, and get
the same results.

Error message:

The connection to the server has faled. Account 'mail.comcast.net'
Server 'smtp.comcast.net' Protocol SMTP Port 25 Secure SSL No Socket
Error 10060 Error number 0x800CCC0E

Have searched MS knowledge base with no luck. Any other ideas?

Did you come across this link in your search?

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q191687

You say that you set up the account on a different computer. Was that
computer on the same premises as the computer with the problem?

Here is what happens when I put an outbound port 25 block on my router:

| The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'None',
| Server: 'mail.pacbell.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
| Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

As you can see, that error matches yours, but for the account name and the
server name. If you are blocked from your normal Comcast location, you need
to do a thorough check of your computer for malicious applications. Comcast
is rife with customers whose computers harbor spamming proxies, installed
surreptitiously with malware. Comcast policy is to send a modem
configuration file to block outbound port 25 when they identify the source
of such abuse. You will need to prove that you have cleaned the computer of
such an infection, then contact Comcast abuse for resolution of the block.

If you are not using your normal Comcast location, are you on another
connection than Comcast? Many ISPs, including AT&t (formerly SBC),
Bellsouth, and Cox block outbound port 25 as a matter of course.

In either case, you may still be able to send email through
'smtp.comcast.net'. Go to the Advanced tab in MS Outlook Express. Change
the outbound port to 465, then check the SSL block. Be sure that you
configure the server tab for "My server requires authentication".

Comcast has detailed instructions for that he
