Hey, thanks Bruce and Steve!!
This is much better than my own workarounds, which didn't leave the headers
intact.
It does exactly what I want, and here I thought it was a long shot.
The "Save As.a desktop file" method works like a charm. It even lets me
edit out stuff like the the 5 KB of quoted text from a message with a one
line reply :-))). I'd never have come up with this on my own.
BTW#1 - I found I didn't need to save it to the Desktop. Sometimes I like
to keep temporary stuff like this in a "Scratch" directory. One extra
click, but helps me stay neat.
BTW#2 - This idea of saving as mail/news files opens up a whole new vista
for me of archiving outside of the dreaded and cryptic OE message store.
I've always just saved as text, but that loses a lot.
I'll also check out OEX.
Again, thanks!

Save the message to the Desktop. File | Save as | Desktop | Save. Open it
with Notepad. Highlight and delete the attachment and drag the message
back to a folder in OE.
If you get a lot, this tool does this and more. You might find it
worthwhile.
