Default Link to file when inserting an object

Are you using the Insert | Text | Object command? Instead, use Insert |
Attach File. After you select the file, click the Insert drop-down on the
Insert File dialog and choose Insert as Hyperlink. Once you're back in the
appointment, you can use the arrow keys to put the cursor inside the link and
press Ctrl+K to edit the display text.

I'm trying to insert an object (word document on a network) in a shared outlook calendar. I need to link ot the file so that the document can be updated directly from the network or via the calendar appointment. this worked fine in 2003 but since we have recently upgraded to 2007 the 'link to file' option is greyed out - any suggestions?
