Alternatively download and install Windows Live Mail. The main difference
is that Thunderbird will remove the messages from the server to your
computer and WLM will act as if you were using any web based e-mail

Not true. ONLY if the OP is using Hotmail. Any ordinary POP mail provider
means that the OP can choose either.
