This is a two part question dealing with OE.

1. I get an e-mail(spam) from what appears to be from myself. "To" and
"From" are the same. I can't block sender 'cause the system thinks it's
my
real e-mail address.

2. Had another spam come in and it placed a web page address in different
locations, including History, on my system. I thought I just deleted but
could I have done something or is there a way for this to happen w/o me
doing anything?

suggestion/comments pelase,

1. A spammer technique, apparently to evade filters by taking advantage
of people's unwillingness to block their own email address. Potentially
filterable in MSOE by using an "AND" condition while checking both the
sender and the recipient IP addresses.

2. Unless there is a new vulnerability about, that is indicative of a
poorly secured mail client. MSOE should _not_ be allowed to run scripts
for just that reason. By default, MSOE is in the "Restricted sites"
zone, so that should not have happened. Did you change the MSOE security
zone, perhaps?

Thanks on #1. Doesn't happen a lot but wondering how it happens at all.

#2. Not sure what I did or how this happened. Never happened before but
there's always a first, for me.
Been having problems with this system, internet cable connection either slow
or dropped, slow in opening programs, etc.etc. so need to check WHAT
settings?
(I keep temp files clean and run defrag 2x a month.)

In MS Outlook Express 6.0: Tools Options Security.

Make sure that "Restricted sites zone (More secure)" is selected.

Place a check in "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as
me.".

I believe that last one kicks in when MSOE is your default client, and
an application tries to use something like a MAPI call. I have not seen
it actually do anything, though, so I am not sure about the details.

Click on an empty area in the Toolbar, and get the "Customize" menu. Add
the "Preveiw" button to the Toolbar. This is a toggle, and will toggle
the Preview Pane off and on. Toggle it off when you are first checking
your email.

Unfortunately, there is no button for toggling between reading as plain
text, or not. In Tools Options Read, you can select "Read as plain
text only.". That will not render HTML, or any scripts; nor will it
display any pictures. Such things will show up as attachments, instead.
I just checked; if email contains HTLM and images, with "Read as plain
text" not checked, the email does not show any attachments below the
headers; but checking that setting does show attachments. This does not
affect the "Attachments" column, which shows a paper clip for email with
attachments.

I just noticed a "Headers" button in the Toolbar customize menu. Oh, not
an email option. All this does is download headers from an NNTP server;
never mind.
