Go into task bar properties and check the settings for inactive icons. It
may be hidden.

No, not talking about the Search Toolbar. There is an icon in the far
right corner of the task bar that used to be called the system tray. It
displays the
time and some of the system operations. There is a magnifying glass icon
in that system tray that gives me indexing information and options. When
I hover over the icon, the message will be "indexing complete" or
"currently indexing." When I click on the icon itself, I get a pop up box
with options such as "snooze indexing" or "index now" or "indexing
status."

Using Windows XP and Office 2007
Have installed the necessary components for the instant search, and it
is working fine. One of the computers on which this was installed
displays a new icon that looks like a magnifying glass in the system
tray. The second computer in the office on which this was installed and
on which the instant search is also working, does not have the
magnifying glass icon in the system tray.
By the way, is it still called the system tray? I'm talking about the
lower right corner of the task bar at the very bottom of the screen.
You're seeing the Windows Search toolbar on one machine and not on the
other. Right-click and empty spot on the taskbar, right-click, hover over
Toolbars, and select "Windows Search Deskbar" when the flyout pops up.
