When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

This thing is driving me crazy! For a long time I have been getting error
messages on several pages. Now it will not connect! I hve no problem
with the internet connection as I have no trouble receiving mail or
surfing with Netscape or Firefox. However, I can onliy rarely get ANY
page to open under IE6. I keep getting HTTP 404 Not Found error on many
pages I go to. It only rarely actually logs into a site.
