Patrick,
In addition to what Tompang suggested. I would also check your Deleted Items
folder, if there are any messages that you want to keep, move them also into the
Inbox Copy folder you created.
With Outlook Express closed, when you delete the Inbox.dbx file from the message
store, I would also delete the Deleted Items.dbx file, at the same time. When
you you restart OE, there will be a new file created for each of the folders.
Where I different from Tompang, do not return those messages back to the Inbox
folder, but create additional folders in OE. Move those messages into those
newly created folders. Keep your Inbox folder, as lean as possible, so future
corruption, will be less likely.
An easy way for this is to create message rules, that move messages directly
into folders that you create, when they are downloaded into OE. So they do not
fill the Inbox folder.

Hello,
sounds like the folder is corrupted.
Create a new folder (e.g. Inbox Copy) and move messages from the Inbox you
want to *keep* to the new folder. leave the messages you want to delete in
the Inbox
Go to tools options maintenance store folder
navigate to the folder shown in the text box
close outlook express
delete the file named Inbox.dbx in the folder
start outlook express, it will create a brand new empty Inbox.dbx . move all
your messages from the new folder (e.g. Inbox copy) back to Inbox and delete
inbox copy.
