attempt to allocate memory failed
Gerry, this fixed it. Thanks. I had a corrupted spam file. Since the
first messages to come in were spam, I got the error. I changed my default
save folder and created a new one. It automatically started importing all
the files from my default to the new and that is when it choked on my spam
file. I deleted it and norton recreated it in the new save folder. All is
well ... Thanks.

Out of memory messages can occur when there is a corrupted file and
processing goes round and round demanding ever more memory to complete the
process. Given you are downloading mail to your inbox then a corrupted
inbox could be the problem. How large is your inbox? Are you storing large
numbers of messages there or do a number of messages there come with large
attachments.
Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings
and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is
checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You
may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make
certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is
not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is
selected and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name,
Type, Total Size, and Free Space.
In Outlook Express Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder and write
down to the path. Using that information enter Windows Explorer and
locate inbox.dbx and note it's file size. Also check whether there are
similarly named files like inbox(01).dbx, which is another sign of
corruption. The higher the number the newer the file.
I would move all messages in your inbox. In Outlook Express create a new
folder by placing the cursor on Local Folder and select File, Folder, New.
Give the folder a name e.g. AAInbox. Copy all messages from the Inbox to
AAInbox. Close Outlook Express.
Reopen Windows Explorer and delete inbox.dbx. A new inbox.dbx will
automatically be created the next time you open Outlook Express. The
chances are your problem will have been solved.

Hope this helps.
