He lives 30 mlies from me, and doesn't know which program he
has on his old computer. I'm trying to get somebody over that way to
fire up the old computer, get the program and version name.

While s/he's there, also setup the free version of LogMeIn on the new
computer. That way, the next time you need to help, you can do it
remotely.
