Default April 2006 update breaks address book?

I hate to add insult to injury; but, I just had a client who's system was
basically rendered inoperable by KB 908531 (it is one of the 4 updates for
April 2006) With it installed, Explorer was crashing all over the place
and he couldn't save files in Word or extract attachments in Outlook.
Uninstalling it fixed his problem.

His system, BTW, is a 2006 Fujitsu Lifebook with tablet functionality.
