Default WindowsUpdate #911567 faut! Outlook Express 6 - Addresbook

Even before this, I have had mine set to Notify, but not install. It gives
me the option of turning off my anti-virus as it can sometimes prevent a
clean install.

The problem is with Windows Automatic Update option.
I am not aware of a "misbehaving" update, until something wrong happens
(Unable to open the Address Book etc.) and then I spend precious hours to
fix
it.
I think that I shall turn the Windows Automatic Update option "off" so to
know at least which update has misbehaved.

MS is aware of this problem. Now, we can only wait. FYI, uninstalling the
patch via the Control Panel is all you needed to do.

This is due to the fact that Windows Update #911567 hosed OE6!
I get the same issues you talked about.

I had to reinstall OE 6 to fix this.

When I redo the patch, OE 6 does the same thing.
So for now, do NOT install that patch, and do NOT use OE6 for now I
guess.

I was trying to shoot a e-mail about this to MS, but they want to
charge
$35
for assistance with this? I think not. Even though they say "There is
no
charge for support calls that are associated with security updates."
They
just don't tell you how to contact support without first asking for
$35.
Rubbish.

I get an error message using Outlook Express 6 in Windows
XP when I click on Create New Message which says there
was an error openning this message. When i click the
address book i get "unable to open address book. Address
book may not be installed correctly" I can receive mail
but thats about all i can do. Worked fine until the
other day. Seems like something is corrupted. How do
you go about repairing, reinstalling Outlook Express 6?
