That worked! I was feeling so dumb to ask that question, now I'm so glad.
This April updates from MS are messing the system, I had to uninstall
another one to bring back some context menu extensions. Thanks for your
attention.

Your problem may be caused by the update KB911567 introduced on 4/11/06.
Try removing it as per this link, reboot, and see if the problem persists:
