Can you give me an example of the NG that has 300,000 messages? I'd like
to check it out and see how badly OE performs with such.

Try alt.binaries.tv. I just looked and they've got 1,473,714 messages in the
queue.

That should give OE plenty of opportunity to show its stuff...
