Default 'Compact Now' not terminating

No, network rules - any .pst file over 250 will be inaccessible until you
contact the SysAd. Additional pst files must be kept on your local drive,
not the network. Ahnold has spoken!

After furious head patting and frantic stomach rubbing, William Lefkovics
[MVP] asked:

| For the record, I did not scratch my head.
|
| You can still have multiple 250MB .pst files, though, right?

|||| I recently deleted a lot of old messages from Outlook XP.
|||| Afterwards I called up the Data File Management settings and said
|||| 'Compact Now'. The 'Compacting' dialog box came up... and
|||| stayed... and stayed... After ten minutes I hit 'Cancel' and it
|||| closed without any ill effects. How long should it take to compact
|||| the file (about 200Mb prior to being tidied up)? Is it possible
|||| for compacting to 'hang'?
||||
