Default Using multiple ids in Outlook 2002 in non-Exchange environment

The problem with that approach is that I do not want the 2 email accounts to
use the same Inbox. And I would like not to have to choose which email
account is to be displayed when I start Outlook. In an Exchange environment,
I can have a number of email addresses available in the same Outlook session.
I'm trying to determine if Outlook supports that in a non-Exchange
environment and, if so, how to set it up and use it.

Is it possible to set up Outlook 2002 to use 2 ids in a non-Exchange
environment (Earthlink) and have them both displayed at the same
time? Is it possible in a POP3 setting or does it need to be set up
as IMAP? If they cannot both be displayed at the same time, how do
you switch from one to the other?

If by "id" you mean "ISP mailbox", then certainly. Create a POP account for
each. They'll both be delivered to the same Inbox.
